Where is BELIZE located on the map?

Belize is a country located in northeastern Central America, a member of the Commonwealth. Belize is bordered to the north and northwest by Mexico, to the east by the Caribbean Sea and to the south and west by Guatemala.

Belize is a Central American country located in southern Mexico and eastern Guatemala. Its capital is Belmopan and its largest city is Belize City. It has a little over 300,000 inhabitants, Belizeans. The official language is English and the country, former British colony whose name was British Honduras until 1970, is part of the Commonwealth.

The northern half of the country is low and often marshy. The southern half is dominated by small mountain ranges, including the Maya Mountains, which rise to 1,120 m at Victoria Peak. The coast is preceded by many atolls and coral reefs. The main rivers are Belize River, Hondo River, which forms part of the border with Mexico, and Sarstoon, which marks the southwestern border with Guatemala.

The forest covers barely half of the country’s surface. Deciduous trees are widespread in the north of the country; tropical hardwoods predominate in the South. Of the main species, mahogany, cedar and rosewood are of great commercial importance; are also exploited pine, oak and palm. The coast is crossed by mangroves. Jaguars, deer, tapirs and many species of birds and reptiles are the fauna of the region.

Belize produces sugar cane and lemons. The lands, very unequally distributed, belong mostly to the British or to the United States. A large part of the population is poor.

The discovery of oil since the mid-2000s brings jobs; Belize is also focusing on tourism development.

Belize is a tax haven with flags of convenience for the merchant navy.

Belize is a regular victim of climate disasters such as tropical cyclones); for this reason the capital was transported to Belmopan, inland, to replace Belize City too exposed on the coast of the Gulf of the Caribbean.

Riding rollercoasters led me to travel. FollowthePIN is merely an extension of the travel guidance I've been giving since 2001. Now in the planning mode for Phase III of RTW for the BTWs. (Round the World)
