Where is SOMALIA located on the map?
Somalia, in long form the Federal Republic of Somalia, is a country located at the eastern end of the Horn of Africa. Somalia is bounded on the north by the Gulf of Aden, on the east and south by the Indian Ocean, on the southwest by Kenya, on the west by Ethiopia and on the north-west by the Republic of Djibouti.
The territories that were once administered by the British form Somaliland, a country structured but not recognized by the international community that does not want to see the changed borders.
Surrounded by the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya, Somalia has 3,025 km of coastline and 2,366 km of land border, more than half of Ethiopia.
Its highest point is the Shimbiris (2,416 m), located in the north of the country.
The subsoil contains uranium, iron ore, bauxite and copper.
Apart from the 2,660-meter mountains on the north coast, the country is a vast semi-arid plateau that slopes towards the sea. The only persistent vegetation is that found along the two rivers. Shebelle and Juba, which descend from the Ethiopian highlands. A narrow coastal plain borders the Gulf of Aden to the north. A series of mountain ranges, whose average altitude varies between 915 and 2,135 m, dominates the northern part of the country. The highest point of the country is Mount Shimbiris (2,416 m).
Further south, the interior of the country is a rugged plateau, cut by the tributaries of Shebele and Juba, and dry most of the year. It descends to the extreme south to a wide coastal plain, which has many dunes and borders the Indian Ocean. The two main rivers of the country cut through the southern plateaux: Shebele in the central region and Juba further south.
