Where is CAPE VERDE located on the map?

Cape Verde is an island country in West Africa, located in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Cape Verde archipelago is located more than 500 km off Cape Verde, the most westerly point in Africa. It consists of ten islands and five islets. To the north, the windward islands (Barlavento) include Santo Antão, Sao Vicente, São Nicolao, Sal and Boa Vista. To the south, São Tiago (or Santiago), Brava, Fogo and Maio form the Leeward Islands (Sotavento).

Cape Verde covers a total area of 4,033 km². Of volcanic origin, most islands of the archipelago are characterized by mountainous terrain. Only Sal, Boa Vista and Maio islands have a slight relief. The Fogo Peak (2,829 m), located on the island of Fogo, the highest point of the archipelago, is the only active volcano, its last eruption was in 1951.

Praia is the capital city of Cape Verde. Praia, the capital, established on the island of São Tiago, and Mindelo, on São Vicente are the main cities of the country.

Cape Verde, in long form the Republic of Cape Verde, in Portuguese Cabo Verde and República de Cabo Verde, is an island state of West Africa composed of an archipelago of ten volcanic islands. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Senegal, it covers an area of approximately 4,000 km2. Praia, the capital, is 644 km from the Cape Verde Peninsula, Senegal. The archipelago is divided into two series of islands: to the south the islands of Sotavento (Brava, Fogo, Santiago and Maio) and to the north the islands of Barlavento (Boa Vista, Sal, São Nicolau, Santa Luzia, São Vicente and Santo Antao). Santiago alone comprises more than half of the country’s population, including the capital Praia.
