Where is Antigua and Barbuda Located?
Map of ANTIGUA & BARBUDA Location

Antigua and Barbuda is an island nation of the Lesser Antilles, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea and a member of the Commonwealth. In Kirundi, the country is called Uburundi.

The country is located north of Guadeloupe and east of the US Virgin Islands, it is composed of three of the Leeward Islands: Antigua to the south, Barbuda to the north and Redonda, rocky and uninhabited island, at the South West.

The island of Antigua is structured in 6 parishes (see list below), and the island of Barbuda has a status of dependency.

    • St. George
    • St. John
    • St. Mary
    • St.Paul
    • St. Peter
    • St. Philip

The relief of Antigua is relatively flat, but the island rises to 470 m. Surrounded by coral reefs, Barbuda is a flat-lying island with sandy beaches.

Despite their tropical climate, the islands are prone to drought. Saint John’s, capital and main port, is located on the northwest coast of Antigua. Almost all the inhabitants are of African origin.

Tourism is at the heart of the country’s economy, which also relies on growing cotton, fruits and sugar cane, and fishing. The main industrial productions are refined petroleum, rum, clothing, furniture and electrical equipment. The monetary unit of Antigua and Barbuda is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD).
