Detailed map of MALI … Where exactly is Mali located?

The country has three climatic zones:

  • the northern two-thirds of the country, entirely desert, belong to the southern Sahara, with annual rainfall of less than 127 mm. This region is crossed by nomads with their flocks;
  • the center: the Sahelian region, relatively dry (with relatively insufficient tropical rains), is covered with steppe replaced progressively towards the south by the savannah. The Niger Valley is cultivated thanks to some enhancement works: rice, cotton, shea (name in Bambara language), peanuts, millet, sorghum. A vast expanse in central Mali consists of swamps, due to the many arms of Niger;
  • the Sudanese region is an area with rainfall of 1,400 mm per year and average temperatures between 24 ° C and 32 ° C. It is, in its northern part, covered with savannah becoming more and more dense and transforming progressively into forest towards the south.

The relief is not very accentuated. The alluvial plains, very large, are however dominated by some limestone and sandstone plateaus (Mandingo and Dogon plateaus). The highest point of Mali is Mount Hombori (1,155 m).

The country with wild nature, Mali offers an exceptional fauna and flora harmoniously coexisting with villages and traditional constructions.

As often the capital reflects all the diversity of the country. In any case, this is the case of Bamako, a true cosmopolitan city where all the ethnic groups present throughout the territory live together without any clashes or tensions. Kind of small Mali, Bamako is an essential point of your trip. On the spot it will be necessary to impregnate you of its rhythm and its colors. Many locals open their doors to travelers and share their meals with them. Their hospitality is so great that many will offer to join them to share a happy moment such as a baptism or a wedding. Bamako is a kind of huge village where surprising monuments such as the Tour of Africa, the Pyramid of Remembrance and the Obelisk of ideograms are hidden.
