Vietnam, in long form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is a country in Southeast Asia located at east of the Indochinese peninsula. It has an area of 330,967 km2 and a population of about 92.7 million in 2016. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos, Cambodia and the Gulf of Thailand to the west and the South China Sea to the east and south. Its capital is Hanoi.

Vietnam is a one-party communist state led by the Vietnamese Communist Party.

Where is Vietnam located? Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia, bordered to the west by Laos and Cambodia and to the north by China. It is bordered by the China Sea, the Gulf of Tonkin and the Gulf of Thailand. It occupies an area of 331,000 km2, and with 3,260 km of maritime boundary, has 4,200 km2 of territorial waters. It has the shape of a stretched S, whose extremities are 1,650 km apart.

Vietnam is made up of three main regions, called Bô:

The mountains and the highlands occupy two thirds of the Vietnamese territory. From the Thanh Hóa region on the Chinese border to the Lao Bao pass (Quang Tri region), its western border is made up of the northern Truong-Son mountain range, from the Tibetan plateau. It is in the North-West region that we find the main peaks such as Phan Xi Pang, the highest point of the country at 3 143 meters above sea level, and Phu Si Lung with 3 076 meters. The southern Cordillera stretches from the Hải Vân pass, in the south of the Đà Nẵng region, to that of Đà Lạt.

In fact, in December 2015 alone, Vietnam welcomed 760,798 international tourists, an increase of 2.6% compared to November and 15% compared to the same period last year. In total in 2015, Vietnam received around 7,943,651 tourists, an increase of 0.9% over 2014. The five European countries, exempted from unilateral visa, showed strong growth, coming from Spain (62.8%), Italy (77.7%), Germany (74.8%), France (84.1%) and Great Britain (76.3%). In 2015, tourists visiting Vietnam are mainly from China, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, France, Malaysia and Singapore.
